Alloys are normally composed of multiple constituent elements in order to achieve integration of a plurality of properties required in technological applications. They can be manufactured by various methods. The most widely used method is to melt the constituents together and to cool the resultant mixture to form a single or multi-phase solid. The alloys precise combination can be governed by the required properties.

Alloy sputtering targets are made by combining two or more metallic elements and generally have good thermal and electrical conductivities. Compared to pure metal sputtering targets, they have much more extensive industrial applications and so are more common in daily life.
